Best way to go about setting the focus on the mezzanine level of a theater battlemap

I am working on a map of a theater. I have the main level (basically) done. I have the mezzanine level drawn, basically as a transparent shadow just to show it is there. I am going to make a second map where the mezzanine level will be focus. However I want it to still show the stage and other parts of the lower level. The Mezzanine level is 50' higher then the floor of the main level (The theater is designed for giants, and the main floor is for them and the mezzanine is for smaller humanoids).
How do you think I should go about drawing the second map with focus on the mezzanine level but still showing what can be seen of the first floor from it?

This can be done using a semi-transparent white rectangle (transparency effect or Solid White XX fill) on top of it. You can also apply a soft blur effect on the parts below.
