Sarah Wroot Style Problems

I imported a line drawing of my campaign from FT Pro. I wanted to just use the Tool Land Default and then Trace but it does not seem to be working. It only goes to the end of the line that the first anchor point is on. What can I do to make it trace the whole map?

The Sheets. For some reason I can not get Islands that are within lakes to show up. All I get is there coastline with no fill. I've moved the sheets around but I can't seem to figure out where to move stuff.

Creating islands on lakes is a bit tricky, because you're basically introducing a new level: Land is above the ocean, Lakes are above the land, and now lake islands need to be above the lakes. The land drawing tool you're using puts the land polygon behind the RIVERS sheet (where the lakes go on), that's why you don't see it.

The easiest way is probably to create a new sheet (e.g. LAKE ISLANDS) with the same effects as the LAND sheet. Put that above the RIVERS sheet. Now make a copy of the "Land, Default" drawing tool and under the Advanced options, make sure that it puts the land polygon on the new sheet.

Yeah, that is what I basically did for the island with a lake on it on World all 05

Where would one find help on copying/creating new drawing tools? Is there a tutorial somewhere, or just in the CC3 help? Or the mega CC2 manual?
I didn't know you could do this, and I'd like to make my templates better.

I've learned most I know about drawing tools by experimenting. Just bring up the drawing tools list, hit advanced, and start look at the predefined tools to get some ideas on how they are set up, then create new ones to experiment.

There is some info about drawing tools in the "CC2 Complete" manual, under the Mountain chapter.

Copying a drawing tools is just a matter of selecting an existing tool, then hit the "New" button. Give the tool a name, and you end up with a new toll that is a copy of the one you selected.

Take a look at the pdf guide to the December issue of the Annual 2007 (Issue 12). It has a good-sized section on drawing tools. :)

Hi, can you provide a link to this, please?

If you have purchased the Cartographer's Annual 2007 or had a subscription for that year, and installed the content, then you already have said guide. It is located in (Your CC3 directory)\Annual\Issue 12

Each issue actually includes a nice .pdf explaining the style and how to create a map using that style.

I belive the .pdf guides are only available through the Annual subscription or purchase of the previous year's content.

Yes, you need the Cartographer's Annual 2007 for the mentioned file. As the original poster was working with the Sarah Wroot style (which was also in teh Annual 2007), he should have access to it.

  • Bit late, I've been busy, but thank you for all of the suggestions and tips. I did make a new layer for islands. I do not trace the maps anymore (no idea why I did it the hard way)

I now import a line drawing of the map from FT Pro then explode, change rivers and lakes to Water layer, lake Islands to new layer then freeze and hide them and change the fill style to what style of map I'm using and change the line width to how the normal style would be.

  • I've been trying to use the Wroot styles as well, lately.

One very weird problem I'm noting is when using the contour, Sea or Land mass tools .... all the outlines are in some hideous shade of purple .. like the pallet hs shifted from the original blues. Scales, and Navigation Lines, too.
  • I think I may have been using the wrong tool. I haven't noted this problem anymore....

It sounds like you used the tool on a map or template where the Sarah Wroot color scheme wasn't active. Maps can have their own color palette's attached, and if the tool references a changed color, it will look different on another map/template.
