May I suggest drawing your own shadows on these objects...or try a wall shadow? Might help to 'ground' them a bit more. Your decision, of course.

As for the sun inclination, I sorta like them both---though favor the 60 degree one. Overall, just love this style. I'm wondering if it will lend itself to regional maps as well?

I am disliking the fill/texture on the volcanic mountains there...but I can just re-scale it. But the volcanoes look much much better.
