  • How to I create a cave entrance?

Sorry for leaving this unresponded to, but things have got in my way.

Here’s hoping I’m not going to get my knuckles wrapped for this 3-in-1 reply:

I started off with Winter Trail, hoping that the search for a top down early 20Century lamp-post wouldn’t be as fruitless as it turned out to be, @Loopysue , and that I’d be able to do the iconic scene at the lamp-post when Lucy meets Tumnus. Then I ’imported’ Winter Village after a dungeon, I think its the Basic CC3 dungeon but can’t be sure.

Its just the entrance that I’m not sure how to do, as when all four Pevensies get to the cave they find that it has been effectively vandalised @Wyvern and debris is the last of my worries in that bit of the map.

I think I know what you are getting at, @Frosty but its far more ornate for a faun - in my perception, anyhow.

  • shadows in a top-down cave

I’ve often wondered how people got the quote effect!!!!! Now I know.

You can do that by adding more light sources on candles and lamps, or just by giving the one light source in the fire a much wider range (say double it). Use Numeric Edit to adjust it's range.

I don’t know how Numeric Edit works - I’m aware that over the last 9 months or so I’ve picked up a great deal of experience (often in terms of editing what I’ve put down) but Numeric Edit hasn't made it so far. I’ll dig out the Tome and have a look.

  • shadows in a top-down cave

its because I’m a former website designer [long years ago], Sue. Things get turned on ( eg Bold) and then when you don’t need it at that location you turn it off. It also helped me to get to grips with the way you added / moved my sheets. I added the dash at the start of those four sheets was in lieu of indentation.

I’ve gone back some earlier versions and am fiddling with them. Don’t worry, I won’t shout at you if I muck those up! I genuinely appreciate your time and help.

The thing I was grappling with this a.m was the fact that despite drawing an unbroken wall (the yellow line) around the furniture, the bleed from the lights was still coming through.

  • Birdseye cut-out problems

I made a new smooth cut-out tool and turned it into a fractal one and so far it is working, but if it stops working today I will definitely add it to this comment as I’m getting fed up with it! The only sheet that moves is the one that the inserted guide map is on.

  • Castle Perilous

I’ve started one using Jon Robert’s overland style but as I’ve got my eye on other locations I may well do a pencil sketch or a handrawn one -- and yes you are biased Wyvern!🤣

  • WIP Arboridia (Mercia) for Community Atlas

The map is being drawn using Jon Roberts Overland style but I’m building the town using Jonathan Roberts Cities template. Up to now I’ve avoided the structures in the Cities template simply because I had got it into my head that I hated the shapes, so I decided to see whether I actually could use them to create a town with them, and I’ve come to like them but strictly on a very small scale! I’m also using colour to help differentiate types of structures, e.g Civic Offices and Harbour area as well as residential areas.

The map below is just a rough outline of the town that I’ve named ’Ridia. I build towns by placing the structures first and then put the roads in, the opposite to a great many of my fellow mappers but that’s how my brain works best.

By the way, were the two templates done by the same person?
