The Renaissance template doesn't have curved walls, @Wyvern and that's why they are angular. I couldn't get to grips with the other templates I tried for Thyra. At the moment I'm having problems with drawing smooth polys because of the way my Windows is set up which is why the roads are currently straight lines.

Thank you @Ricko for the example maps in the Renaissance style.

it turned out to be quite easy to lay out - mind you, it was only down to my additional sheets! Whoever invented sheets needs a Nobel Prize for services to mapmaking!

  • Annual Wish List - Castle Construction

You can fit some of the house symbols in the Isometric Town from the same annual to create a terrace of houses (a series of houses that are joined together) but some of them are more fiddly than others to get them to sit together @Royal Scribe .

EDIT: I just discovered the Beaumaris template doesn't appear on any style on the NEWWIZ chooser panel/interface. It is installed in with the other Perspectives options but it doesn't show up on the template list. I had to go into the folder lists to find it. Very handily it is isometic-ish and sits fairly comfortably with the Isometric Town symbols.

The shadows on the trees are part of the symbols, Don, and so would be a nightmare to match, and the buildings, as isometric symbols, are inclined to 'float' if too much shadow is applied - believe me, I tried to apply shadows on them! I thought I had taken all of them off.. The map is set in the late 900s and the group of buildings is a priory.

  • is there a Beaumaris template?

    thanks guys!!

    LATER:

I had to go via the ProgramData folder to get to the files which threw me, but I had to then go via Perspectives to get at the symbols. Dunno why they landed there as I  accept defaults when I install anything.

  • Is there a runic font?

The closest I ever got was the font Tolkien, but I seem to recall using it sparingly and not for small text.

Will look tomorrow - had enough of Windows for today! Give me a Mac any day, they're much more civilised 98% of the time!!!

  • How to I create a cave entrance?

Sorry for leaving this unresponded to, but things have got in my way.

Here’s hoping I’m not going to get my knuckles wrapped for this 3-in-1 reply:

I started off with Winter Trail, hoping that the search for a top down early 20Century lamp-post wouldn’t be as fruitless as it turned out to be, @Loopysue , and that I’d be able to do the iconic scene at the lamp-post when Lucy meets Tumnus. Then I ’imported’ Winter Village after a dungeon, I think its the Basic CC3 dungeon but can’t be sure.

Its just the entrance that I’m not sure how to do, as when all four Pevensies get to the cave they find that it has been effectively vandalised @Wyvern and debris is the last of my worries in that bit of the map.

I think I know what you are getting at, @Frosty but its far more ornate for a faun - in my perception, anyhow.

  • shadows in a top-down cave

I’ve often wondered how people got the quote effect!!!!! Now I know.

You can do that by adding more light sources on candles and lamps, or just by giving the one light source in the fire a much wider range (say double it). Use Numeric Edit to adjust it's range.

I don’t know how Numeric Edit works - I’m aware that over the last 9 months or so I’ve picked up a great deal of experience (often in terms of editing what I’ve put down) but Numeric Edit hasn't made it so far. I’ll dig out the Tome and have a look.
