Something I didn't know...

The way symbols with some transparency are drawn is different to the way symbols with no transparency are drawn. One of the smoke symbols (the one we both had trouble with) has some transparency and that's why we couldn't get it to come to the front.

The best solution is the new sheet option in this case. As was pointed out to me it's probably best that the smoke doesn't have the same sheet effects as the bushes anyway.

Looks very similar to the 1930s Overland Map style from the 2013 Cartographer's Annual.

And yes - most of the terrain sheets have the same issue.

The difference between those two settings is that the Percent of View Width is really huge at '10'. That's 10% of the width of your window. If you set 10 map units thats just 10 miles rather than possibly a few thousand miles.

Im thinking that I might have misunderstood the question. Are you drawing a fractal polygon using a drawing tool or the fractal polygon tool on the right? Or are you fractalising an existing line? Are the corners the nodes that stick out from the line?

Be aware if you do that, that those symbols are city scale, which means they will pixelate if you scale them up too far. City symbols are less than half the resolution of dungeon symbols.

The Colour key works as long as you have these three things set up correctly:

• The cut out shape is on the same sheet as the thing you want to cut.
• There is a Color key sheet effect on that sheet, and its set to the same colour as the cut out polygon
• The sheet effects are turned on.

If you want to cut the same hole in other sheets, for example you've cut a hole in your land that you want to cut in the terrain that lies on it, then you will have to set up the same thing for that sheet as well. It doesn't work for multiple sheets, but only the one its on.

A Color Key only works on the one sheet that it's on. If you want to cut things on other sheets you need to make a new Color Key on that other sheet and add new colour cut out polygons to that sheet above the polygons you are cutting.

I actually missed a point above. The cut out shape must be on top of all the other shapes on that one sheet.

East Europe is a pretty large area. Which part of it? I can then go and have a google street view at what you mean to compare with what I know about existing styles.
