WIP - Maelgoth
Looks like its coming along just fine :)
Don't worry about adjusting sheet effects if you prefer things to look a bit different to the way the style is designed. It was designed to be a close replica to the original Ferraris map. That doesn't mean you have to stick to the design if you don't want to.

Blending
That is the difference between vector symbols and bitmap symbols.
For reasons of performance I think, the bitmap symbols are redrawn twice, which means that not many sheet effects apply to them, or apply only to the first time the symbol is drawn.
You could try this:
Type DELAYDRAWSYM and hit enter, so that the prompt appears in the command line at the bottom, and then type zero and hit enter again, then redraw the map. It stops the second redrawing of the symbol.

Maps Bonanza Humble Bundle Questions
You can make battlemaps in CC3 alone these days. All the dungeon tools are built in.
There is also a built in dungeon style - Jon Roberts. If you have the whole bundle you also have Dungeon's of Schley (Symbol Set 4), which is one of the main styles I've seen being used for all kinds of dungeon maps ranging from house plans to caverns.
I think there are also some of the dungeon style annuals included in the full bundle.
The easiest way to see what you have in the way of dungeon styles is to open a new map and pick the Dungeons map type with Decide Settings myself. That will list all the available templates and give you a small thumbnail of each one as you select it.
(I have everything, so my list is probably a bit longer than your friend's will be, but I have picked the Jon Roberts style to show you one I know you will definitely have, even if you only have the core app).

FT3 Interpolation within a flat-world creation
The mountains in the middle are a general result of using fractal equations to generate landmasses. I've not heard of a way to get FT3 or FT3+ to interpolate. We just sculpt things in a general way and use fill basins and erosion to do the rest.
The One Day Worldbuilder issue of the 2019 Cartographer's Annual contains detailed instructions on how to make a believable world relatively quickly, but that is based on FT3. I'm not sure if all of it still applies to FT3+
I'm also not sure if the ODW is included with FT3+ or not, though it was included with the recent Humble Bundle.
