CC3+ Sheet Effects stopped working

I've been working on a map for a little over a week now and tonight, all of the sudden, the sheet effects stopped working. They can be turned on or off, but they don't render their effects any longer. It seems to have happened only on this one map. I'm using the Herwin Wielink style and a custom scale 1400 x 950. I had adjusted the symbol size and texture sizes to suit.

Have you hidden the MERGE layer? If this layer is hidden, sheet effects won't work.

Create a new map in the same style; delete everything, then paste in the other map. That might fix it.

I ended up having to create a new map and copying it all. The merge layer was visible and I couldn't really explain why they just stopped, but the new map fixed it.

I know this is so ancient topic, but it struck me today - and also with Herwin Wielink's style. In my case, the problem was unhiding the "TEMPLATE" layer. Hope this helps somebody.
