So this is a map I'm making for a little guy I know who has a birthday coming up. All I have to do now is put in the autumn mist and it should be done.
@Lorelei: Thanks, I'm glad this inspired you to do something for your family. I hope your nephew enjoys whatever it is you are going to do for him.
@Dogtag: Thanks, sorry about the small text, I have a hard time seeing it too but when it prints it should be fine. I love all the little monsters keeping puff company too. I always imagined that it wasn't just him that lived in Honnah Lee. He at least had to have neighbors.
@Ladiestorm: Thanks, Glad you like it. When I made it I had to have something personal to put on the map so I drew him that dragon that is on the land. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have a professional print shop make a big map for him. maybe about the size of 4 sheets of paper arranged in a square. I'm thinking about putting it in a scroll case too. I'm going to try to convince his mom that he needs to go on a treasure hunt for his presents this year, and in the process he would find the scroll case with the rolled up map.
I saw that you posted that on the other site. Man, if you can talk his mom into it.. that would be soo awesome!!! Maybe like a scavenger hunt, with clues? We've done that for our kids before... and we even did that a couple of years ago for my husband for Father's Day. It was a lot of fun! And he enjoyed it too! lol
It was more of a color thing than a size thing. The font is pretty fine/fancy and between the teal(ish?) color, the gray glow, and the green background, it's hard for me to make out. But, so long as your little buddy can read it, then who cares if I can?
@Dogtag: lol, well, you know us old guys..it gets harder to read stuff that 20 years ago wouldn't have been a problem :P
@Barliman: I used the Here Be Monsters annual for almost everything. The monsters, land, sea, banner...all of that comes from the Here Be Monsters annual, the Empire of the Sun annual for the autumn mist (those are actually varicolor bushes that I turned gray), and an element from Crawford Cartography (that would be the hand drawn dragon on the land :P )
You know, seeing this map brings back so many memories. I just remembered a little girl I used to know...back when I was 11. She was about 4-5 years younger than me, and she had a brother about 2 or 3. Our mothers were very good friends, and I think our Dads were both stationed on the same ship. I remember my mom and I were at their house, and her kids were watching the animated...was it a little mini series? Anyway, their eyes got big and round when I started sining the song. Every time after that, when we went to see them, they made me sing that song! Lol.
I also want it for the ship's Family Day that same year. Everyone loved it, but I was so nervous, I am.ost forgot the words!
