Boardgames Revival?

WOW! - I've been following the game trades lately and reading some trade pages, and listening to some podcasts and stuff - and I am amazed to see that board games seem to be on an amazing upswing. I LOVE IT!!!, I remember way back (I'm prehistoric) when computer and video games were just getting started - a lot of media folks were predicting that board games would go the way of the whooly mammoth, I am pleasantly surprised - and deeply pleased by the apparant humbling of past nay sayers. Could it be that the tide is turning in favor of the old school gaming crafts?

Actually, that amazing upswing took place many years ago and board games have been doing tremendously well ever since. When I first took notice of this, I too was surprised that with all the well-done computer games available that board games could flourish. Even more amazing, to me at least, was the quality of the products. The boards, cards, pieces, even the boxes themselves are of an amazing quality. After watching my copies of risk, monopoly, etc deteriorate, I was truly stunned by the quality of current board games. The prices do reflect that but I don't mind paying a bit more for a game I know will last.

Good point Old Guy. I love physical media - it's wonderful. I am definitely going to keep following the trades and get up to speed on this stuff ASAP PRONTO!

The local Barnes & Nobles has lots of very cool board games and they tend to sell more of them then RPG stuff I suspect from what I see when I check the shelves. They even have Lego board games now.

Board games are also popular items for those who like to hang out in cofee shops I see a lot of people playing them at the local cofee shops. One shop even has a board game night.

I'm hoping that some of the classic ones I used to have, that got destroyed with Katrina will get reissued at some time so I can replay them
