I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Placing dormers on roof top, the first placement works as expected; but when I move to placing a second I get a "offset from place point 3". What I was expecting was a simple placement.

These are smart symbols. In this case, this features is made to enable you to both align them correctly with the edge of the roof, and also allow you to place them as far in/out as you want. So therefore they take two clicks to place, after you click once to place them, you can move your mouse to adjust the position before clicking again to finish the placement.
Thanks! I was backing out of the command because it appeared to of changed the orientation of the symbol I was placing --clicking through and playing with the command now......really speeds up things once you understand how it's thinking.
