map size for printing

Just got this what i need to know is what size should i make my map so when i print it it will fill a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. 500x200 , 400 x 800 etc etc

    That depends on what scale you wish to print in.
    If you are planning to print in classic battle map scale where each 1" square on paper represents 5 foot, that sheet size would support 8 by 11 squares = 40 by 55 foot map size. (Or more likely 40 by 50 unless your printer is completely marginless)

    If you are printing to some other scale, just do the calculation as I did above.

    If you are not printing to scale, you can use any size you want. Just remember that for dungeon and city maps, that map size is the size in feet (or meters, if you use a metric template), and for overland, it is the size in miles/km, so just decide how large the are you want to map is.
