Frames on Maps

I've realized that most of the frames that I made for my maps were pretty boring so started to consolidate my ideas on how to improve them.
They ended up in the attached document. It is not a tutorial but more of a reference or idea guide.
Let me know if this is useful and if you have any other ideas or suggestions that I can include.

There's a free download set of map frames with an interesting wooden appearance available from StoryWeaver games by recently-elevated Master Mapper Joe Sweeney that may be worth adding to the list of resources.
Pär Lindström has a second tutorial about using Photoshop to create a quick map border that I don't think you'd mentioned here.
Plus the November 2008 issue of the Cartographer's Annual deals specifically with the uses of the map border.
With the bevel-effect problem, I think that can also be overcome by drawing the frame as two separate polygons that meet in a diagonal at opposite corners of the map, instead of using a simple box. Somebody more knowledgeable here will doubtless correct me if I'm wrong on this though!
You've certainly put together an interesting collection of ideas for border alternatives though; well done!
