I'm on the home stretch, I need to finish labeling my roads, and then I have to place my statue, and I am done. My friend, Bogie, was willing to create a swan statue for me, I just need to download it.
That's looking really good - especially now you've turned those umbrellas the right way around
There are a few problems with the legend:
You missed a space between Voud and Califf on item number 5, and on 18 between Coach and House, and on 22 between Guard and House, (either that or you meant those words to be one thing but for some reason inserted a random uppercase letter), and there is something happening that's crunching the lines together between 12 and 13 on the legend. Looks like 2 blocks of text that aren't lined up correctly?
Thanks Sue, you were right, it looks much better now that the tents are turned.
As for the spacing, If you look at the thread title, VoudCaliff is how I've been writing it from the beginning, and that's the way I want it. the same for CoachHouse. The owner's name is Byron Coacher, it's sort of a play on words for the character.
As for the misalignment, I didn't notice it before, so thanks for catching that! I will definitely have to fix it
Its a personal thing, I suppose, but upper case letters in the middle of words like that is absolutely screaming '21st century domain names' (it doesn't occur anywhere else before the turn of the century).
It kind of spoils the map for me - but then that is just my personal loathing for RunTogetherDomainNames - I absolutely detest them.
I did end up changing it, and adding the spaces. I have seven or eight streets left to label, and then I'm done. Correction, I have seven or eight streets to name, and the coastal details, and then I'm done. I should have the finished product by tomorrow.
Voud Califf is finally finished. I want to thank everyone for your comments and suggestions. I will add this map to the Community Atlas, as soon as I find a suitable place for it.
Monsen, what do I need to give you for the atlas? FCW and jpeg? Oh, and I will probably need to give you the flying swan statue that Bogie made. I'll check with him to make sure I can do that, but it shouldn't be a problem.
I'll only need the .fcw, I'll render it out myself for the standard atlas sizes. I also need to know what name you prefer me to use for you in the atlas, and what contact information (if any) to provide with the map if anyone wants to contact you about the it.

Yes, this is extremely important. I cannot include anything in the atlas that I cannot redistribute, so the atlas must have full redistribution permissions. Redistributing it with the atlas also means that anyone who download the atlas can use it themselves.
I realize that, Remy, that's why I've asked Bogie if I can have permission to distribute it under the Free Use License. That is the license we're using for the Atlas, correct?
If for some reason he declines to give me the permission, I will just remove the statue for the Atlas. It has significance for my campaign, but other than that, it doesn't strictly need to be there. It's the only thing I'm using that isn't specifically part of the acceptable 3rd party add ons.
you know.... that's a very good question... It's not a big city. It would be a town by today's standards... but this world only has maybe 1.5 - 2 million people on it... if that much. So this city has maybe 5-10 thousand? Again, it would be a town by todays standards... but for my world, it's a city.
The city has ~250 buildings. Assume an average storey number of 2, and an average inhabitant size of 4 per storey, you get 2000 people. There are other more accurate ways to calculate, but I couldn't see the city as having more than 4000 - and that would be packing it in. Another way would be to calculate the are of all the buildings, multiply by the average storey number, and assign a number of persons to each unit area eg 1 per 25 sq ft (5x5 ft) - and that's crowded! Without a grid, I cannot do this on your city. Anyway, that's my take. And I simply love the city, and envy your players.
well, I did figure that some of these buildings are two family structures... and you may not be considering the barracks and hostel, not to mention the 'mansions' that house more people.
But again, this isn't meant to be a modern sized city, so... eh... it works for me
Medieval cities in Europe - particularly places like London- had buildings that were usually 3-4 storeys, sometimes 5 or 6 if the lower floors were built with (or the spaces between the timbers filled with) stone or brick.

You should probably ignore me and my little quirks, Storm!

So you could double that figure?
