Crashing- too many nodes?
I exported a portion of a world map to work from and it keeps crashing.
I understand if I do the "remove nodes" command, it will help. Is there another way to do this without getting rid of the coastline detail?
Thanks!

Apart from that, not really. If things gets too complex, the only way to deal with it is to remove complexity. (Of course, this assume the problem is caused by too much detail in the first place)
Any other ideas on why it's crashing a lot?
The command is covered briefly in this blog article by Remy Monsen:

What you can try doing is to automatically trace it using the TRACED command (just type it on the command line), this command allows you to automatically trace an entity, with built-in simplification options.
