A quick search suggests Sue did refer to a bevel used in a loosely negative way back on 4th June 2017 - see the Show and Tell: Community Atlas - Vyrn City topic (I've linked to where the mention is for my system, at the top of page two, but you may need to hunt for it if you have personal messages already in that topic). However, this was not in the sense of a negative bevel, as such - by which I'm assuming you mean applying a bevel effect such that the object affected appears sunken into the surface, rather than raised above it.
Assuming that is what you were looking for, the HTML Help file in CC3+ (the information you get from the drop-down menu Help > Help option) has details listed for such usage under the "Bevel" entry for the Invert Colors command.
To make a hollow rather than a hill use the Bevel effect and tick the 'Invert Colours' box while editing the effect.
You can also use a Lighted Bevel, but you have to untick the Global sun direction and reverse the direction of the sun manually in the boxes below that. This ceases to work if you change the direction of your global sun and forget to adjust the effect.
In trying, unsuccessfully, to trace JimP's remembered posting, I chanced upon this Forum topic discussing making a bottomless pit using an inverted bevel, from early 2015, which I thought it might be useful to mention here.
Found a discussion where I mentioned 5 wall pieces and a 'mask'.
I don't find it in the Annuals, which is where I thought I saw it back then, but there was a dungeon where a mask was used to cut out pieces of a thick bitmap fill, to show the room area to be mapped. At least, that is what/where I remember of the 'mask' discussion. I'll look for it.
edit:
I found a post here back in 2010 where I mentioned the post I was looking for was tentatively done in March, 2008. Posts here only go back to Apr, 2009.

Everything ever posted here should still be here (except spam), we don't remove anything. There are plenty of posts here in this forum from back in March 2008 (Which is the month this forum was started, so nothing older than that would exist).

Yes, on the search page, you can hit "Advanced" in the upper right corner. Now you have additional fields for inputting the user name. Make sure to use the right "set" to fill out, you'll normally want to use the middle one, as that searches in comments.
If you prefer, you can write everything into the basic search box directly, the format is username:searchterm. Again, remember to search for comments, and not topics, as the latter only searches topic titles (unless that is what you need)

Not sure I would know what a negative bevel would look like. Do you have an example from somewhere else?

I only searched on the word 'bevel' which gives several results, but I didn't see the one I took part in... of course, I could have missed it.
Jim - I bet everything we have ever talked about is repeated at least once over the last decade or so
Sunken pit for CC3/DD3
Its not the bevel I was looking for, but it is a bitmap fill layered sunken area.

I'll look on my external hard drives.

for instance: 'JimP and mask'.

edit: I have no idea how I got the bevel as I don't see it in the fcw. This was done in CC3.
Quick check of the FCW shows the bevel to be on the island sheet, not the Cave walls one.
