It's for the world map. However the map is pretty large, so I could to an extent draw the individual layouts of the towns right on the map, too (it would be nice to show things like one town having an adjacent harbor, etc.)
Even with a very large world map, showing a city larger than a dot may be a little extravagant. Using dots or very small symbols instead of actually drawing them at that scale would probably be better.
Take for example the city map I am working on right now for the Community Atlas (Sanctuary). Sanctuary is about 3 miles in its diagonal dimension - a reasonably large city for a fantasy city set in a pseudo-medieval time period, yet it still only appears as a very small standard city symbol on the overland continental map drawn by Lorelei - and that's not even the world map.
There are hundreds of different kinds of city symbols in the Schley style. There are also a couple of good ones in the Herwin Weilink style. The trouble is that I don't know what kind of style you are intending to do this world map in.
I like the darker design elements of the Herwin style, but the towns and such look pretty generic fantasy. Schley's "Hut Town/Village/Hamlet" are architecturally similar (wooden construction with thatched roofs) but the art style doesn't fit with Weilink.
Then I'm not understanding what you mean by Anglo Saxon/Norse buildings.
Have you seen anything in web searches, for instance, that is more like the sort of thing you are after? That might give other people who know more about the contents of the annuals an idea of what to suggest.
The concept of a symbol is that it is symbolic of a thing, rather than an accurate depiction of it, and at the scale of a world map it should be possible to make a tiny cluster of a few very tiny thatched buildings if none of the existing city symbols are suitable -using the House command in CD3 if none of the ready made building symbols are right.
Other than that, and unless anyone suggests an annual, I would say this is probably an opening for someone to draw a small selection of new symbols - though I hasten to add that I don't currently have the time for anything other than Sanctuary until I'm done with that city.
