I wrote a short review of four planet map generators - including Fractal Terrains - the other day:

FT3 came out on top. The selection was a bit unfavourable for the competitors though.

It does look interesting, but there doesn't seem to be any way to buy it except through Steam, which doesn't interest me.

Grand Designer looks nice! I'll see if I can try it with my son's Steam account. Is there a trial version/period?
