I really like the fog, even if it could maybe be a little more subtle. And I really, really like the underwater monsters, they look even more frightening that way! I would never dare sailing on this boat!
The fog, lighting, and mist are all done in photoshop in post-production. I am going to make a fill based on the results in the map above so we can get similar results in CC3 natively. Once I get it worked out I will share the fill and the settings used to achieve the look.
Have you tried the old technique for comparison? I mean, using lines or polys of solid white on a sheet with a transparency effect and a heavy blur effect?
I've always thought the texture of fog is perceived at ground level by the person walking through it, not from miles above looking down. Then its just like clouds to me - clouds that can be emulated by scribbling a lot of white stuff/grey stuff together on the map and blurring it. Like this:
I haven't tried fog/clouds/mist before, but Sue's comment made me think; What's the difference between clouds and fog? Maybe, clouds have drop shadows and fog doesn't?

Thanks!
Thanks!
Can I talk you into sharing your technique?

Maybe I am wrong there?
