Someone might be along shortly to prove me wrong, but not that I know of.
I use the hide inactive sheets check box and so only one sheet is shown and then do a select all (like with a delete command) to see if anything is on that sheet. If not, then I delete it (if I'm worried about excess sheets).
In a way you can: Show and Thaw the layer TEMPLATE, then delete everything on it. Then save your map, close and re-open it. All empty sheets will be gone.
This is because CC3+ does not save empty sheets, so there is a dot for each sheet on the TEMPLATE layer, to keep them in the template. Removing them gets rid of empty sheets.
EDIT: added the instruction to actually delete the content on that layer.
I guess Ralf forgot an instruction in there to actually delete these points on the TEMPLATE layer (They should all be in the bottom left corner, coordinates 0,0)
