Suggestion for a future Annual: Coastal
ScottA

I am working on two different city projects right now -- an island community and a coastal New England town, and I have realized, quickly, that there is a real shortage of symbols for coastal mapping. I would love to see a future annual address this with symbols like:
lighthouses
buoys
more ships
scuttled/sunken/sinking ships
coastal rock outcroppings
lobster pots (!)
seagulls
beach debris (seashells, seaweed, driftwood, etc.)
...and so on....
Also, it would be a great place to include a tutorial on creating whitecaps, waves, sea spray/foam and other water effects as we've recently seen in some of the beautiful maps posted by members here.
I have made due making my own coastal symbols as needed from pictures I've found online, but it isn't the same as having a set all in the same, matching style.
Just a thought.

Here is the transparent fill I used to create the seaweed in Merelan City. You have to use it scaled right down, and with a RGB matrix process to get the colour you want, but this is it:

And this is the rocky seabed fill I used in MC as well (unfortunately I had to resample it down to 750 px so that I could upload it as a png file):
