As you can see the decisions on how to convert it have been a pain.

I have thought about making a template of my own that I could import the original map into and go from there.

Yea, you are basically doing a manual map projection conversion. I can see how that is a pain. Wondering if the tool Joe spoke about in the other thread could handle the conversion?

Hmm... Equirectangular sort of works, but it cuts off the polar regions. I'll thnik I'll make a blank overland, import, and my version of trace over it.

Jim, are you trying to duplicate the "three circles" Space: 1889 map in the Traveller triangular full-world-map format, or construct a Space: 1889 Martian world map in Traveller style? I ask because there's a large area of overlap on the "three circles" map which you could easily leave off for a standard Traveller-style global map (it's about one-third of either the left- or right-hand circle edge), which would give you about 1½ diamonds of extra space to play with. I did wonder if trying to force the "three-circle" quart into the "triangular" pint-pot is what's been causing you so much grief so far?

Anyway, I would like to get the majority of the locations and canals onto the new map. The Traveller template, I go back and forth between having the bmp showing and the map showing. Mostly to look for places and canals, and see if i can put them in there so they show up when I hide the bmp.

I didn't really look for duplicates, I probably should.

Well, I seem to be stuck on several maps and game systems... so here is the quarter deck of a Space: 1889 ! Martian ship.

Original map and my CC3 map so far. I'll think a bit on what to use for the overhead view of wood railings.

Getting the ram to look good is a bit of a problem... I thought of a metal ram, but Mars isn't supposed to have lots of metals available. From the book... there is enough to make metal armor for these types of ships in use by the European powers that have landed here. Or it could be imported from Earth. I'll have to check on that.

No symbols for the guns, I'll have to make some drawings or symbols for them. 1800s weapons were mostly large and bulky.

The blunderbuss was 1700s, maybe 1600s.

Did a quick look-up, seems the blunderbuss may have gotten started in the very late 16th century, and was in use into the 18th century.

As for late-1880's weapons, looked at some images there... I wouldn't call them "large and bulky" by any means. I think "refined steampunk" might be fitting though...

Maybe try a dungeon door symbol, Jim? Or something like the Bench or Board symbols in the SS2, Bitmap B set? I used some of the latter for ship rails a while ago, using the "Independent X and Y" command to rescale them to "long and thin". Should also give sufficient contrast in colour to work with this liftwood craft's deck.

Also, instead of a (rare) metal ram, maybe one only painted to look as if it was metal would work instead? Tricky customers, these Martians!

The Empires bring metal to Mars, and some martian Kingdom fighters have metal armor. So I'm unsure just how scare metal is in this game scenario.

I'll check on the dungeon door symbol. I made some benches symbols years ago. I'll check those as well.

Sigh, my new Mars map should go here.

My new Mars map for my version of Space: 1889!. A work in progress. I am using a FT3 world with Mars soil colors. The mountains currently uncovered will be covered by some hexes. I am undecided on a number of things, including terrain, on this map.

Well, I am not satisified with the maps so far. I am going off in another direction. Probably make the text a bit larger, and maybe use a different font.
