Empire of the Sun - Castle

This is small map of a mountain pass with a Castle, two towers, and a small settlement. It is cold with snow on the ground, pine trees, and large rock formations. I am experimenting with various themes and scales.

I like the greater scale, but what are those whiskery marks around the trees?

I think they are part of the tree images. Not sure why though.
