Empire of the Sun - Island

My first try at making an island using the Empire of the Sun style.
I think the island itself needs to be a little bigger.
I added some colorful sea monsters from one of the other styles.

Nice! But I recommend moving the horizon line up, behind the island (or the island down, below the horizon line). The land and sky are hard for me to distinguish and it looks more like a small, wide peninsula.

I really like the lush feeling of the island and the castle on the mountain top is pretty cool. It reminds me of Himeji Castle, near Kyoto (and Osaka and Okayama). The colors of the sea monsters work well with the style but they do remind me of western maps a little too much. I really like the village.

We could definitely use a symbol update for this style. Oriental sea monsters would be absolutely awesome!

Not sure how I am going to adjust the sea level though. In this style, it goes over the landmass. I can put a new one on a different sheet, but the rear and forward water bitmaps will not merge. That means I will have a solid line between the two. Any suggestions?

I looked at some online sources.
I need to put a border between the land/ocean and the sky.
I was wondering what the borders were for on the template.

Many of the designs that I looked at have a red or blue faded border.

Can you just click Move, select everything on the island (including the land and, probably, the nearby ships), then de-select the sky and sea, and Do It? (probably click Ortho to ensure you just move stuff straight down).

Interesting use of the style Charles. It's nice to see someone else using this style besides just myself and qwalker. Are you making these new Asian themed maps for part of a game?

Yes and no. I will be making player maps as well as the DM's maps. The DM maps will all be in the same style, but player maps will be in a "local" style. These are test maps to give me an idea on what I can do with them and I will use them for products on Red Bubble. This style makes great throw pillows. Ha, ha!

Here is my updated island.

I put black lines on the edge of the island where it faded into the background and I added a fade to the background as well.
I took out the sea monsters and just added some more boats.

So did I. They made it more... I don't know.... special? Interesting? Not sure, but the monsters definitely added something

Maybe they need to be bigger but kind of transparent like the decorations you get on really old sea charts?

I was worried that the distinctly European look of the Sea Monsters would detract from it.
I looked up oriental sea monsters/maps and next to nothing Asian came up.
But a ton of European ones came up and you can distinctly see where the symbols in our set came from.

If we can get an oriental update with suitable symbols, I will definitely update this particular project.
