Posted By: HadrianVILooks good! But it seems to me like you did not activate the sheet effects before exporting. It would surely look even better if you'd turn them on. Or maybe you did activate them, but the values on the effects are not optimized for that kind of view...
Also, you could extend the map on the left side, so that the landscape doesn't come that close to the map border. The map border is just as editable as any other entitiy. There are, however green lines, which limit the drawing tools. But they can be edited as well. But it can be hard to identify and find them, at least in my experience.
Keep up the good work.:)
I think I had effects on, but the effects work much better on the regional size I posted originally. like you said - optimized for that view. the regional zones is mainly what I am interested in for viewing, but I wanted to see the whole thing put together as well
also FYI the city map I am working on - the City of Blackhold, that's just south of the small central mountain range, nw of the forest, in between the rivers
Like HadrianVI mentioned before, though, it appears the effects are not activated. CC3+ overland effects should (should!) look good at pretty much any zoom level because they usually use the new Percent of Drawing Extents Width Effects Units setting. That typically ensures the effects adjust with the zoom level. If you did grab this screen shot with your effects on, though, then you may want to add a white Outer Glow effect to the TEXT sheet. Or, if it's already there, you may want to double-check that the Effects Units are set to Percent of Drawing Extents Width or, if that's already set as well, you may want to increase the size of the glow slightly. In the end, though, it's all a matter of personal taste.
And speaking of personal taste, personally I would probably steer clear of Mallaria. I'm getting visions of mosquitoes!
Also, the more I look at the map, the more I really admire your rivers!

I was trying to keep complete control of them so that's why it was set that way
I can totally get behind that, myself. The two "non-Map Units" effects units in CC3+ are new. All effects in CC3 were in Map Units. The main problem with Map Units, though, is that they don't adjust with zoom levels, so they become less visible-to-invisible the more you zoom out.
Another option altogether, if you want to display the map at different zoom levels but still use Map Units to set the effects, is to save your effects settings and create new ones for different zoom levels. That's what they used to do in CC3. So the totally zoomed out effects settings were named "MapStyle 1000x800" while more zoomed in/larger-scale maps used "MapStyle 500x400," "MapStyle 250x200," and so on, for whatever the map style was.
Again, however, it's all a matter of personal taste. Just a thought.
Looks really nice. I love the detail you put into it.
I'd still do something with the western coast, it is a bit too straight along the left end of the map. I think it would look a bit more natural if it looked less aligned to the map border.
You can always increase the size of your map with the scale tool.
In your case, if you wanted to extend the map to the west, you can use the scale tool and draw a box in the left corner of your map. This way you should select the map border, the screen, the background and the map restriction lines. If this also selects sea contours, you can always use the "not" combination to un-select them. Then you press "do it" and point right at one of your right corners (if you don't want to increase the height of the map, it doesn't matter if you pick the top or bottom) to chose the point of origin. This is important, because this way the map will only extend to the right. After pressing the left mouse button, press CTRL and move the mouse to the the side until you have the with you want (you can also use this to decrease the size of your map). Make sure you keep an eye on the top left corner of your screen where the coordinates bar turned red. This shows you the vertical scaling. Make sure the number is 1.0000 when you complete the scaling. Otherwise the map will de- or increase in height as well, which is maybe not wanted.
I use this method quite a lot, because I hardly ever get the size right right from the beginning. The method can also be used to just increase the area you can draw on, without moving the screen, the map border and the background. You do basically the same but un-select everything you don't want to move. This is especially useful if you work with lighted bevel effects on your contour sheets.

I did have outer glow for text set at percent of drawing width, but it was a black outer glow. now change to white
also trying to add an edge striping effect on the coastline but it does not seem to be doing anything...

Can I ask, which style is this drawn in? One of the Annual styles, or original CC3?
