Wierd stuff happening with my copy of CC3+

Weird stuff is happening to my Merelan City file.

1. Adjusting Sheet effects has no effect, even after refresh.

2. When I just tried to export it to a rectangular JPEG (something I've done at least a hundred times by now) I gave it a name, clicked save, then was prompted for the name again instead of the coordinates for the first corner. When this happens clicking anywhere causes the Save as box to come up again - and I try again with the same result - and so on - around and around in a loop just like that.

I closed it, reopened it, and it seems to be working all right again.

The thing is that its not the first time this has happened, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had one or both these problems.

  • I get some weird stuff happening also, not that problem for sure.

I have one map exported from Fractal into CC3 and the climate and temperature layers overspill the map. If I try go into those layers and edit it just crashes.

Me thinks it is something we have to expect with CC3 is that sometime the program just wants to do what it wants.

I think CC3 and CC3+ tend to get different problems. I haven't had any trouble with maps I've exported from FT3 to CC3+

    Have you tried using CC3+?
  • Haha I should be more literal when I post. I always use CC3+ For 15ish years of playing with CC2 and CC2 demo and CC3 and CC3+ I always still refer to it as CC or CC3.

I think with the map I exported I put noise for the temperature and it formed like 20 000 entities for each of the temperature and rainfall. Resulting in poly's that have irregular shapes that cause the problem.

20,000 entities! Wow. I don't think I have that many in any map - not even my Merelan City map!

And I've been thinking about this since I made my first post. Maybe we all get different little quirks happening because we all have very slightly different systems (especially with regard to Windows!) :)
  • The one about the save as... I have had that problem, if I had a folder same name as in the save as dialogue for the file it would do what you mention. Thats one reason I put a number as part of the filename and no numbers in folder names. Its a Windows problem.

    Windows 10, you think?

I don't have similar folder and file names, but its still happening to me.

    Anything is possible.

When my Windows computer starts acting flaky, I do either a restart or a shutdown.

I've had to deal with 'lowest bid' computers on almost every job I've been on. So I would try a restart or shutdown. If you try a shutdown, wait about 2 minutes, then turn it back on.

I rarely do a shutdown unless I am getting lots of weird Windows things going on. That does a reset for everything. A restart doesn't typically re-load every dll or startup program. So I don't do a restsrt unless i feel its necessary.

Well mine is a bottom of the range 2.5 yr old laptop that was original Windows 8.1, but now runs Win 10. I haven't yet had to do a restart to resolve those two problems I've had. I find that just shutting CC3+ down and reopening it does the trick.

Even so, I'm still thinking that Win 10 may be the problem. It certainly knows how to press all the wrong buttons with my Photopiant programme. That one doesn't mess around doing interesting, amusing and sometimes irritating things. It just crashes without any warning.

It never ever used to do that before Win 10.
  • My problem with Windows is that some versions should have been released as patches instead.

Its been based on NT, not ms-dos, for several versions now. Thats one big reason its harder for older software to work on it.

    I didn't know that, Jim.

The whole world must be full of coders trying not to tear their hair out whenever MS coughs up another change to their OS. I can well understand all these people that prefer MAC
