Shaded symbols

Does anyone here know how to create symbols that react to the global sun position, like the house symbols in CD3?
I'm trying to create a very simple set of tents without using shaded polygons, so that I can just paste them at any old angle as symbols from a symbol catalogue. I just have no idea how to do it.
I think I need two images like these, but after that I'm lost as to how to make them work together.

The procedure is described in the help topic "Creating bitmap city symbols" and in more detail in the CD3 section of the tome.
I've read the Tome three times right through the CC3 symbol section, but didn't realise there was another section on it in the CD3 chapter. One of those 'doh' moments, I think
I'll post a screen shot of the result when I've sorted it out
All right a very long delay.
I've just lost 2 hrs work when Photopaint crashed on me and corrupted the saved file. I was nearly done with it as well.
Never mind. No one ever got anywhere worth being without at least a degree of persistence
I have studied long and hard till I came to understand the principles enough to apply them to the fine art of creating...

Barnacles!!!
For the scale these tepees will appear on the MC map, this is not a problem since they will hardly be visible as more than small round marks, but its worth remembering for the future.
This is the colour file for the prettiest one...

And here is the map file to make it react to the global sun:

If I had 5 lives and 5 times as much time to do all the things I want to do, creating a whole new building set would now be on the list, but I think I'll just stick with a set of tents for now.
Next will be the more basic 'throw a blanket over a rope between two trees' design, which will be all that most of the regugees can manage to do.
The tepees were for my plains nomads - the Sorowans, which I realise now have a lot in common with Native Americans, even though they are blue-green and impossibly haughty and vain.
(and now I'm thirsty for a cider, of all things!)
I'm doing the whole thing again with all the proper gear - the bits and bobs that support a sort of flue arrangement in that V shape at the front.
Maybe it will look more realistic if I also make the slope of the sides a bit steeper and give them proper shadows
I've only done one of them just yet, and this is what it looks like in the directory, now that its been converted into a symbol:

But when I paste from the new catalogue of exactly one tepee, the map doesn't work

Until... I pull out quite some way, and the LO res map seems to work perfectly...

I've just spent the last half hour trying to work out what is happening here, but I can't figure it out. Why would the VH and HI res versions fail to work, even though the LO and VL clearly do work - and frustratingly well, considering I can hardly see them?
Thanks Remy
How in the world am I going to sort that one out?
(I'm assuming that you mean the file size, rather than the picture size, which should be identical)
How do you make a file bigger than it is, when its just the size that it is... if you see what I mean?
Ooooh... wait a minute!
When I converted the colour image to map shading I did away with the outline around each polygon. Would that have been enough of a difference?
Always be wary when you render a raster image from a vector drawing, differences like these can easily happen.
You are the single most wonderful being on Earth right now
I took the outline off the colour version and reconverted it...

I'm so happy I could shriek with joy... except I'd probably scare the neighbours half to death... so I won't. I'll just sit here grinning madly, and I'll give away a nice freebie for anyone who would also like to have a couple of tepees in their map.
Er... these are the ones that work

Thank you Remy
lol.
Does that equate to 12 flats of Canadian beer? :P
Whatever they are, I am just so happy to get this finally working!
All that trouble over a little itty bitty hairline outline!
Thanks again, Remy
Myself I like the spirits, Vodka, Sambuca and liqueurs.
Yepo those tents look pretty damn wicked. Though here we call them teepees or in the states tipis.
I think I need to go find myself a nice cold cider now
They do look like plains teepee, or tipis. The transliteration can vary.
And parasols too!
