start of a new project

Hmmm. Not that I have spare time as it is, but I have decided to elaborate on various things.

My Crestar site is my old AD&D 1st Edition paper and pencil site.

My Starship site is my deck plans for a rather large starship. Kilometers in length.

I am tieing them together; Crestar is a game played by some of the passengers and crew of the Starship Wanderer.

I am starting, no maps yet, to create blogs of the home worlds of the passengers and crew of the starship.

The first one is at: Tok-Tol for passenger Saandy Kelesh.

I have been thinking about using my Old Lock, Nessie of Marsport site for one of the character's home world as well.

Tok-Tol now has a planet map on it.I had to turn it 90 degrees in Irfanview so it would fit the blog format.

I used Cosmographer Pro's World Template (gurps) as a starting point.

Here is a shrunk down, 50 percent, png of the surface map. Two cities, 1 starport, several oasis. I may add villages later on.

Anyone have ideas on orbital cities ? Shape, problems, mapping suggestions. I don't have the new CD3 yet, but I might be able to get it before Feb, 2009.

I want to make one of the locations for a sf character in a city orbiting at 1 AU around a G2 star to tie in with my Starship web site.

Guess that depends on what style you want, and if you want the city to be placed on a man-made orbital, or an already existing body. like a large asteroid or something.

I would probably decide on what I wanted my city to be like first, then figure out how you are going to map it. After all, mapping a multi-level cylindrical space-station is going to be very different from mapping a domed colony on an orbiting asteroid. Look to Sci-Fi movies, old and new, as well as sci-fi magazines and cartoons, and you should be able to come up with an interesting design.

I think a large rectangular city would be easier for me to draw. Attachments such as airlocks, antennas, etc. would make it 'less flat', but the overall shape would stay the same.

I just bought all of the add-ons, including CD3, I don't have. So, I hope to improve my mapping skills. The prices did show up at British Pounds at the end of the teransaction for some reason. I followed the link for the 'you don't have these registered, buy them together and get a 10% discount'.

I have a new Vista computer, 3 gigs of ram, 256 meg video card. I will be moving my WinXP install of CC3 et al over to it as my WinXP computer failed last fall. Especially now that I have gotten past the 'you don't have permission' nonsense that Vista does so well. Doubling the ram will likely enable larger maps, I hope so. I probably need to completely redo my city and dungeon maps. Hmm. Yup, they are in definate need of revamping.
