Just an update I got the hard drives system memory drop to stop. It looks like on a windows updated and/or antivirus update or when I was installing Cosmo 3 something messed up the file volume reporting and was causing a couple of problems. It looks like a few things got glitched by updates to my system too.
I had to from a command prompt as an admin run chkdsk C: /f /v /x. I then had to do a disk clean up and reboot. Got everything except 1.5 gigs back that is stuck somewhere that i did remove. Weirdly, when i ran check disk not via the command prompt with out those added commands it didn't fix anything.
I also contacted my antivirus company any they said to do a full uninstall of the software and reinstall when I would have a few hours to talk with a tech as that created a bunch of temp files that could have caused the problem when it updated a few days ago and a clean install would be the only way to make sure that was fixed. The temp files are not clearing like they ought to. The antivirus program is current taking up an extra 1.2 gigs that it not to due to not removing temp files and may be one of the problems if it has any hidden protection files.
I also had my Windows media player settings get messed up too and that ended up causing problems also. It made a pop up for now reason when I was running a full system scan with my antivirus program saying that my media playlist library was corrupt and it had to rebuild.
A lot of the glitches I learned a are common Windows problems for my version that Microsoft never fixed.
Also my swap and hibernate files doubled in size. (The lost 1.5 gigs of space is not part of this.) Anyway if anyone want to PM me with any advice or programs to run to make sure. The file volume reporting appears to have been the problem.
If you haven't already done so, you can always run a system file check too (now called resource checker or something). HowToGeek has a good article on what SFC does and how to run the check. I don't know that it will help but it won't hurt.
One small caution, a full sfc check can take a while, so you might want to run it before going to bed or something.
