Buuut.... Now that you have settled on a scale for the map, I think those bridges might just be a bit narrow for the horses to cross them without an extreme amount of coaxing. I don't know. What do you think?
I'm getting a bit like my mother in my old age. There were three of us - Alan, Alison and me, Sue. I kind of grew up thinking I was called "Alan-Alison-no Sue."
Its probably a good job I didn't have 9 siblings, or I would never have managed to figure out my own name
Posted By: CharlesWayneRobinsonI took a break from working on the walls and worked on the gardens and the village buildings.
The garden is done (remember, it is just the beginning of the Spring and they live far to the north. As such nothing is planted yet).
The buildings are not done yet. One building still needs the sod/turf roof, most of the living quarters still needs the smoke holes and the smoke. Some of the sheds still needs shading.
Wow, Charles that is a really great map. I noticed you took out the footpaths to the south (or are they just hidden in another sheet?). I agree with you about the horses, they would only come in from the main gate, not the footpaths. I'm glad you broke up the regularity of the houses. It gives a much more organic feel about the place. That really is excellent work!
Very impressive. More importantly, it looks like a great RPG accessory. Should provide a nice guide for walking around and exploring and for some nifty combat opportunities defending the town on the walls. That's always my benchmark for maps and you've done a nice job so far. I'm looking forward to the finished version.
Now that I've had a chance to see the walls up close, though, it looks like you used a symbol (shield or dish or something) to place along the walls. Did you use the escarpment ("symbols along") command, or did you place all those individually?
I am placing them individually to match the wall design underneath. The wooden black and white posts are not all the same size, as such, I needed to match them as best I could. You are right, they are shields from Character Artist 3+. The shields gave me the color, texture, and pointed center that I was looking for. For the walkway and tower floors I used the Texture Overblend effect on specialized sheets.
I found your paths, Charles; and I really appreciate the subtle way you have of showing them! That is really nice! That is an excellent map! I especially like what you've done with the fields for growing stuff-the idea that there's still snow on the ground is perfect.
I agree with LoopySue, the high ground looks really good!
Incidentally, if you (or anyone else, of course) want to turn the "links" in your topic post into actual, clickable, links, here's a quick and easy way to do it:
Click the BBCode radio button beneath the big text area where you type your comments. It's right above the button you click to add attachments.
Alternatively, you can make text a clickable link and hide the long URL by using the format [url=http://my.url]clickable text[/url]. In this case, the "clickable text" will be a link that takes readers to http://my.url. The result looks like this: The larger image file can be found here.
Just a suggestion, if you're interested. For more info on using links on the forums, there are sticky topics here and here.
I think the reason people posts non-hyperlinked links to CG is because they used to disable hotlinking, which meant a real link don't work, you actually have to copy it and paste it into your hotbar. Seems they might have disabled that now though, as your link works fine.

Or.....because it took SOME of us six months to figure out HOW, despite Dogtag's tutorial sticky That's because SOME of us are computer idiots.
Nothing big, I just added the cattle pins outside the walls, they are brought in at night. And I added the condemned to the "Judgment Rock" north of the town (The wolves will feast tonight!).
I noticed on your big map towards the west the fort has slate grey stone on it, and when you reach the north-east side it's almost bluish black. Was that intentional? (i.e. a lighting effect) Just wondering.
As stated earlier, I had taken a break from working on the wall to visit other aspects of the map. I have a few more things to do to the map that is outside the walls and then I will return to the wall and the village itself.
I like your tombs; especially the way they go 'off camera' as it were. Are you going to put doors on the corrals for the animals to be brought into the fort? Or do they just enter through the Northeast gate?
There are gates in the fence for each coral near the northeastern gate. The three barns on the left side nearest the gardens is where they stay at night.
In addition, the large fields for plants like barley are "off camera" as well to the west.
For the future, you might want to look at the escarpment command (Draw>Symbols Along or ESC), just to make things easier on yourself for next time. It won't improve the map itself but it'll make it that much easier and faster to draw.

The bridges are foot bridges.
They are not meant to hold horses.
Only a few Noblemen would ride horses and even then they would usually dismount for battle.
Vikings tend to raise horses as draft animals and for meat (which they were rather fond of).
I blame a string of 4 hour nights. I'll put it right

The paths are still there. ;-)

;-)
I also updated the map border and added a small band of giant trolls.

- Click the BBCode radio button beneath the big text area where you type your comments. It's right above the button you click to add attachments.
- Type BBCode link tags on either side of your link, which look like this: [url]http://my.url[/url], where http://my.url is the URL you want to link to. Note that the tag after the link has a slash (/) before the word, "url."
- Alternatively, you can make text a clickable link and hide the long URL by using the format [url=http://my.url]clickable text[/url]. In this case, the "clickable text" will be a link that takes readers to http://my.url.

As far as the links go - I have just been lazy - LoL! :-)

It was a lot of fun exploring CD3+.
And I am really proud of the final results.
Thanks to everyone who gave me such great advice! ;-)
