Ethran: Somnee Arena (Merelan City)

I'm taking part in the Cartographer's Guild Aug / Sept Lite Challenge, which is to map an arena - any kind of arena, as long as its an arena (which if you think about it is a pretty wide definition)

There are at the moment only two other mappers in the Challenge, though I am certain the number will increase as time goes on.

For my entry, I have chosen to make a new map of the arena shown on the Merelan City map at Somnee.

This is the first WIP that doesn't just show an image of Somnee from the city map waiting to be traced. I have managed to work out the cliffs to my satisfaction with pleasing speed. (Must be all that practice I got with MC!) The grass is just a temporary cover to hide a very busy repeating pattern.

I Got rid of the bowling green - replaced it with sand.

Added the buildings, using the same symbol set as the original map. I think I may need to do some drawing to hide the rough edges where I have had to enlarge them far beyond the originally intended purpose.

And I will join in (I have an idea in mind already), if I have time. I still have to figure out what I'm going to do with that commission.

Yes and no... it looks like I can make my own... it's just that I found out that what I originally told the client I was going to do for licensing, I can't do. Or I can, but it amounts to the same thing as giving my rights away...which I'm not willing to do... so I have to go back to him, and explain the situation... and tell him I have to change the rules of the license, and see if he's still willing to let me continue. Luckily, the guy seems really reasonable... so it probably won't be a problem.

Looking good! I know you´re still starting it, but maybe the outline cliff line would look better in dark grey than in black.

I'm not working on this map any more.

I will sink this discussion to prevent any further confusion in the matter, but I am no longer entered in the Lite Challenge over on the Guild because I have too much to do repairing Merelan City.

Its no big deal, I was only in the Challenge for about two days anyway. LOL. I had to make a decision about how much time everything was going to take, and how much of everything I was going to get done, and I made it in favour of the city map. There's a lot more riding on that one, since it will become a companion map to the first book of 5, and this little map was only really a side-track
