Overlapping Borders/Removing Borders

Overlapping Borders:
I've had Campaign Cartographer 3+ for some time and have never run into this problem before. For some reason, say I have a landmass with a border separating the land texture from the water. If I place a tree symbol so that the tree partially extends beyond the border of the land mass to over top the water (just to add a sort of pop-up effect), the border will appear on top of the tree. This happens with all symbols I place. I've tried using the 'Bring to Front/Back' tools to either bring the trees forward or the border behind, but that doesn't seem to work. If there's a solution to this, great!

Removing Borders:
Another idea I had was to simply remove the border and have a glow effect from the landmass to create a shallow effect emanating from the landmass into the ocean. When I do, however, it is partially covered by the border. So I was wondering how it would be possible to simply remove the border or paint it invisible so as not to show up. I tried checking the 'Hide Outline when Filled' box for the landmass's settings, but the border seems to be a separate entity.

If anyone can share how to deal with either of my issues, it's appreciated hugely. Thanks!

  • I don't know about how to make the outline move behind your trees... Usually it depends on the order in which the sheets are drawn. The items on sheets near the top are drawn first, with each sheet being drawn on top of the one before it. So usually if you have something that disappears(or in your case, is partially covered by something else), the way to fix it would be to change the order in which the sheets are drawn, by moving a specific sheet up or down. But I believe the outline of landmasses may be a special case.

There are several ways to 'remove' that outline, each with its own advantages and disadvantages.

One way(perhaps the easiest) would be to simply delete.the sheet it's on. The advantage, of course is that it is completely removed. There are some ways that you can manipulate your land mass and sometimes that outline can be manipulated with it, sometimes it can't. Removing it by deleting the sheet is one quick step and it's gone. The disadvantage is...one quick step and it's GONE. Meaning once you do this-delete the sheet ( I think it's the coastline sheet), you CANNOT undo it if you don't like it. The undo button will work for just about any mistake... but not this one. If you delete.the sheet it's on, you are stuck with the choice you made.

You can also remove it with the erase button, but it's very tricky, and not a procedure I can actually explain. However, the procedure for this is explained, quite nicely, in a wonderful resource called the Tome of Ultimate Mapping. If you haven't picked it up yet, I highly recommend you do so. It will answer about 90% of your questions on how to do different things with this program, and all of its add ons.

Your could possibly erase the outline by hiding all of the sheets EXCEPT the coastline, which will allow you to click on the outline to erase it.

You could also change the properties so that it matches that of your landmass. This will basically extend your land mass.to include.the outline.

I've probably overwhelmed you, but I hope this helps some!

Are you using the CC3 standard overland style? I just noticed that there is a missing sheet in the template, causing the drawing tool to create it. Unfortunately, when that happens, the sheet that gets created appear last in the drawing order, thus obscuring everything else. Just open the Sheets and Effects dialog, and move the COASTLINE sheet up right below LAND in the list, that should take care of the ordering.
  • Monsen,
Moving the sheet worked just fine so thank you so much!

    LadieStorm,
Moving the sheet on which the border is on behind the Background sheet seems to "get rid of" the border by simply hiding it. I'll also definitely check out that Guide you mentioned, thanks!

Thanks so much to both of you!
