Adding floors with Dungeon Designer CC3+

I've created a bunch of rooms (and then filled them with items) with the "Floor - background" box unchecked and have now determined that that was a mistake.

Is it possible to select all the rooms and add floors to them?

  • Sure...just create the floors. Make sure you are on the Floor Sheet, use the Floor option on top left and place. Just make sure the Floor sheet is "below" your other sheets.
  • I was hoping for something a little less manual

You can also copy your outer walls to the FLOORS sheet (and layer), use Combine Paths and Path to Poly on them to convert them to a polygon, and change the width of that resulting polygon to 0, and the fill to an appropriate flooring fill style. This approach is usually rather quick and easy (Depends a bit on the configuration of your walls), but can be a bit tricky the first few times if you are not used to working with these commands, especially the combine paths one.
  • Change to Sheet walls and layer walls. Select a color and draw a polygon. Instant floor. You could even use a bitmap fill to give the floor texture.

Sorry, Dorward, but not quite in the way you're hoping.

Rooms aren't really "room objects." They're merely floors with walls. When you create rooms without floors, you really just created walls. There's no "Add floor" function that will automatically draw a floor for selected walls.

Monsen's solution, above, can help you get it all done "at once" and it's really not as complex as it may seem when reading it. Here's a quick tip.

To copy all your walls to the Floors layer:
    1. Right-click the Copy button (on the left) and select Copy to Layer from the pop-up menu.
The command line at the bottom now says Select entities (0 picked):
    2. Right-click again and select Layer
The command line at the bottom now says Layer name [dialog]:"
    3. Right-click again (I know but, yes, again).
      The Select Layer dialog displays.
    4. Click the WALLS layer (that's a normal left-click this time).
A gray bar highlights the layer name. If you clicked the checkbox (you don't have to), then the box checks as well.
    5. Click Ok.
The selected walls highlight and the command line at the bottom now says Select entities (X picked):, where "X" is the number of wall entities selected.
    6. Right-click and select Do it from the pop-up menu.
The command line at the bottom now says Layer name [dialog]:"
    7. Right-click.
      The Select Layer dialog displays.
    8. Click (that's a normal left-click this time) the FLOORS layer.
A gray bar highlights the layer name.
    9. Click Ok.
It looks like nothing happened, but it did. The command line now reads, Command [LAYERCPY]:
To copy all your walls to the Floors sheet: (after copying them to the Floors layer)
    1. Right-click the Copy button (on the left) and select Copy to Sheet from the pop-up menu.
The command line at the bottom now says Select entities (0 picked):
    2. Right-click again and select Prior
The selected walls highlight and the command line at the bottom now says Select entities (X picked):, where "X" is the number of wall entities selected.
    3. Right-click and select Do it from the pop-up menu.
      The Drawing Sheets dialog displays.
    4. Click the FLOORS sheet (a normal left-click).
A gray bar highlights the sheet name.
    5. Click Ok.
It looks like nothing happened, but it did. The command line now reads, Command [ COPYSHT]:
If you hide everything but the FLOORS sheet, you should see the walls that you copied there. You can then follow the rest of Monsen's instructions to convert the copied walls to floors.

    I hope that helps,
