Posted By: ShessarWonderful on the window sills. And your stairs are perfect! Thanks for the stair shading symbol. Those are the sorts of thing that you can't have enough of.
Thank you, Shessar. I agree on the shading front. I'm thinking of doing an entire range of shades, all different colours - ones that you can just stick anywhere you like - round ones, square ones, rectangular ones... all different kinds - anything that can't be done with a shadow effect. They are really easy to do now that I've finally figured out how to do the transparency properly. I suppose I should start a request list of some kind.
Posted By: JimPI got DAZ 3D when it was free... the problems comes with the add-ons like textures, clothes, buildings, etc. those can be vezry expensive. I also have Wings 3D, ts free to.
Anyway. I've been working on my Traveller site. I need to stop making maps and do more, much more, descriptions. Waaay behind on the text.
I hope you do get some curtain symbols made.
I answered this when it first appeared, Jim, but it seems to have disappeared.
All I wanted to say was - good luck with your writing :-)
Posted By: LoopysueMy Mike Schley folder contains only the kinds of things you would use on an overland map, but don't worry. I expect there will be some curtains in the DD3 set when I install it :-)
The Schley dungeons things come from an add-on known as Symbol Set 4 (SS4), Dungeons of Schley. It's not a part of CC3+. One must buy it to have it.
I made the stairs separately to the banister rails and used the glow effect on the banister rail sheet to pull them up from the stairs. The complex banister with the shadow is somewhere above this post. The other three bits of the set are below.
Think I may have finished the structure of the building now. There are sills on all the windows, and roofs on the bays at level 2 and 3. The Observatory has a flat roof. Even though this is ill advised, for it makes it easier for the pterodactylian predators to land, Domar's father had the apex rooftop removed and the observatory installed - the roof removed because it got in the way of the telescope view.
I have yet to complete the furnishing of the first floor, and I haven't even started on the upper two floors. The observatory itself will be covered in a glass dome. I haven't yet decided how to give the impression of an upside-down fish bowl, and nor have I decided how best to design and draw the telescope itself. I'm thinking of going for something that looks like a drawing that might have come out of Leonardo Da Vinci's note book - one of his contraptions, even though I THINK the telescope was invented before he was born? More research needed.
I feel a bit guilty uploading a set of images that on the surface don't look all that different, but this time... I have curtains (courtesy of Vintyri and Lorelei), and an excellent gold fish bowl cover for the observatory (courtesy of Lorelei).
I have finished the ground and first floor levels, including a junk room with four flagons of hooch hiding in the warm spot against the chimney. Floors 2 and 3 are proving to be a bit of a headache, since one is two laboratories, and the other requires a telescope I have yet to draw, though it looks like it might be some kind of gyroscopic mount with an operator's seat lined up with the telescope.
Also, the shadows have changed, and the light falling in through the windows. I've been doing a lot of fine tweaking, though I'm not sure if its better, or just slightly different. Ah well...
Loop, This is coming along beautifully! I just love this!! And, will steal this idea eventually for my campaign. I'll strong arm them to visit a mad old astronomer if I have too! Anyway, I've got a few laboratory pngs i'll send you via email that might help. And.....since you've posted this and i sent you the glass dome (which looks PERFECT) i've been thinking about your telescope. Here's what i've been picturing courtesy of my favorite Doctor, Doctor Who It's from a David Tennant episode, i think its Tooth and Claw. Anyway, there is the FANTASTIC observatory and telescope in the episode. I recommend you take a look at it for some inspiration for your drawing. It really is a pretty telescope Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
Wow Lorelei. They are just the job. Great! Thanks!
I'm flattered that you want to steal the idea, but I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of having a mad astronomer as the protagonists grandfather LOL.
EDIT: You have inspired me with these telescope images. I can see me finishing the top floor tomorrow.
