Cropping

Greets, all. Newuser here.

First, thanks for all the excellent tutorials, et al. They've been excellent resources. I've definitely done searches on this forum for various techniques ranging from rivers, scaling, perspective and the like. Now, I've also done the large map to small search and vice-versa.

But I'm still confused on exactly how I can outline an area on my large map, crop it out (without altering the original) open a new CC3+ window, paste that crop into it, alter as I see fit, save it as needed for my players. All without damaging the original drawing. Generally, the goal is to save a zoomed rectangle of the selected area which would then remain in proper (if expanded) scale.

Could one of you excellent CC3+ users please point me at a tutorial or link for the exact process?

thanks in advance
Cal

  • Which tutorials have you read about this ?

I would suggest make a copy of the map. If its filename is example01.fcw than save as example02.fcw and alter/trim the copy.

You can also save as a rectangular PNG of an area of the map. Import that into another blank map, then trace and edit it.

I've used both methods to make over 2,000 maps. Which method you pick is up to you.

Here is a link to all of my tutorials my map tutorials page

While some don't mention CC3+, or CC3, they should stil work. If they don't, or you have questions about them, just post here. I had a contact page, but deleted it there due to spam.

  • Thanks for the advice. Once I learn how to crop out a bitmap of varies enlarged images, that will come in handy. I'm reading the manual on it and it's not clear to me how to do that.

  • 1) Load your map into CC3/CC3+

    2) Save As by Ctrl-A

    3) a save as window popsup. Change Save As type to 'rectangular png'.

    4) give it a new filename. and click o nthe Save button lower right of the popup.

    5) You are now back at the map, with a vertical and horizontal line meeting for a selection point.

    6) Click the left mouse button for the upper left corner.

    7) Move the mouse and click for lower right corner.

    8) the program will now start the save of that part you selected.

    9) now select a new template of the smaller map size. Insert the map on a bmp layer and sheet you create.

    10) trace/draw the new map. Hide all sheets other than the bmp layer, delete the imported png.

    11) Save As the new smaller map as a png.
  • Going to try this asap...thanks! :)
