Problems with certain areas of instrction manual

I am new to this program and am going through the manual step by step. There are just one or two areas which I have been struggling on for hours. I think there might be small details or instructions missing. I have tried repeatedly to follow it to the letter and I have also tried experimenting a bit. Sometimes when I experiment I get a little further but still not how it should be. I have also tried to find videos on these small areas I am having problems with but cannot find any.

The two areas are specifically:-

1. Editing (Select by Colour) -
I find by following instructions exactly it does not work, If I experiment a bit it does. So there are small details which are missing in the instructions. I also like to understand what I am doing and why. example ( Combine - And (Both)). What exactly does this do?

2. Editing with Drawing Tools
There are parts of this section I have been struggling with for hours. I think there are gaps in the instructions or that these instructions are for people who know previous versions. I follow step by step and it does not work. I start experimenting and parts of it does work other parts no. I am pacifically struggling to trace and delete outside the border. There seem to be parts of the instructions missing.

Does anyone know of any videos which cover these sections or additional manuals that cover these sections?

Thank you.

  • Send to Back and Send to Front was first implemented when sheets weren't in use.

To use them now, both items have to be on the same sheet.

    1. Edit by color would be by the color number. Using the list command to find out what the color number is will help with this.

    2. I'm not sure I understand the question, but here goes. If you are trying to move a landmass back under the border, the edit node commands are what I use to do that. Node Edit, left side looks like a right angle with two arrowed lines on its side. You can use that by clicking on the icon, and moving the edge of a bitmap fill/color back under the border area. Save as often with multiple filenames in case you have to go back and undo doesn't help.

    Hi JimP

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately there is no specific question, I am struggling with the whole section which consists of many commands and movements. They just seem to be incomplete.
For Example:- "Click SEND TO BACK. RIGHT CLICK, SELECT PRIOR, THEN RIGHT CLICK, SELECT DO IT." Once I click SEND TO BACK button, I right click ( I can only assume where I should right click exactly, because if I right click the button, no PRIOR option is available. So I right click in the middle of the area that was traced. I can only assume it means on the area that I traced. There is no sign that anything has been done. So I can only assume that it has done something or if have done it in the right place. But as it does not work in the end, I have no idea if the movements I have made are correct or not.

Example 2:- "Click DEFAULT TERRAIN, then select TERRAIN DEFAULT FARMLAND" I do that and trace the farmlands with no problem. "REPEAT STEPS IN STEP 2" When I do that does that mean steps 2 and 3, one at a time, or just step 2, or do step 3 after I have done step 2 on both? Or not do step 3 at all. Either way I am not getting the required result. "TRACE THE 2 FARM ENTITIES ONE AT A TIME" Do I need to do step 3 after each one? Or don't I do it at all. I have tried every method that I can think of but when I do the next line:-
"CLICK ERASE THEN SELECT LANDMASS SHALLOW SEA FARMLANDS OUTSIDE TEMPLATE" I do this and some parts disappear, others don´t and out of all the instructions and movements, I have no idea where I went wrong. I have tried to follow it exactly as it says and tried to use common sense assuming that there must be other ways. I have spent a few hours on this but never seem to get the required result.

It will say RIGHT CLICK but it does not say where to RIGHT CLICK exactly.

    I guess the question is:-
Where can I find more detailed clear instructions to do the whole procedure in this section. Maybe even a video on this section if it exists, so I can see what is being done exactly.

I'm struggling to find anything missing from the steps here, except to clarify that every time the manual mentions right-click, the right click should be inside the drawing area (to bring up the selection menu), and that entities are selected by clicking on their edges.
The combine options tells CC3 how to combine different search criteria. For example, if I select something manually, as well as telling CC3 that I want entities with Color 3, if I use AND, I tell CC3 that both criteria 1 AND criteria 2 needs to hold, i.e. it must be one of the entities I selected AND it must be color 3. OR on the other and only requires that one of the two criteria are true.

You should right-click anywhere inside the drawing area. This should bring up the selection menu explained earlier in the editing chapter.

Yes. I can clearly see that this is a bit confusing. Step 3 uses the Prior selection, and prior automatically selects the last entity you created or manipulated, which only works as long as you executed the step immediately after doing the trace in step 2.

Erase will erase anything you selected. If you find that you didn't erase everything you were supposed to, just repeat step 5 for the remaining entities. The point here is to erase all the original entities, leaving your traced versions behind.
  • Thank you Monsen! Will try again taking your points into consideration. :)
  • Thank you so much guys! That helped a lot! Its perfect. I think the whole problem was that I was selecting the middle, instead of the edge of the entity, when erasing.

Great. I'll do some updating of the manual to make these points more clear.
