It just means you probably don't have any connecting symbols in the symbol catalogues you currently have. And even that's just a guess. I honestly don't know if any of the other catalogues have connecting symbols. But you can make them if you want, regardless of whether you have Cosmographer or not.
And you just went back over my head again...lol. I am no where near experienced enough to start making my own symbols, yet! Have to finish learning to crawl, then walk...then I can start running.

Symbols are actually pretty easy to make. I typically start by creating the symbols in a regular file. Creating the symbol catalog fro whatever you've drawn is the last step. My weakness is Photoshoped symbols (.PNGs). I'm not very skilled in that area.
Posted By: LadieStormThat's really cool! How do you know whether you are using a connecting symbol? Actually, that's part of one of the manuals, or the Tome, isn't it?
Right. If you look up connecting symbols in the Tome, Remy Monsen does a good job of explaining them there.
You'll find that some of the bridges, etc., in the DD3 symbol catalogs are available as connecting symbols.
City walls and compound sections in the symbol sets of the Vintyri Cartographic Collection also include connecting symbols. They're explained in the Vintyri guide.
Connecting symbols can be identified by the letter C in the upper right hand corner.

I also use them for making regular castle maps to.
