[Annuals] A Guide to the Styles?

The recent wonderful maps we've seen have made me wonder if anyone has ever made a guide to the overland styles and describing what situations they best fit. For example, "Style X is most suited to large regional or even continental maps and has a Renaissance feel to it," or "Style Y is best used for local maps (no bigger than 100 x 80 is recommended) and uses a range of dark, brooding colors."

I doubt this has been done, but, with the number of Annuals produced now, it might be handy for someone looking for just the right style for map. Just a thought.

It would be a serious undertaking... and someone that not only has all of the annuals, but knows how to use each one...

It's not exactly what you're after but the Cartographer's Annual page lets you click through each annual and each issue of each annual, where there's a description and some screen shots.

I don't know if this is for sure what you want but each of the annuals with overland map styles comes with a pdf giving an example of its use. In those pdfs if the map is better suited to a particular size of map that is indicated. If no size is specified it is fairly safe to assume you can use the style with any overland map.

There are also a few threads on this forum where someone made the same map with different styles. I find those invaluable when trying to select a style!
