Default Fill scale

Hi there, struggling with my first days of cc3, hopefully you guys can help me

every time I create a new dungeon map all the fill scales are orders of magnitude off. I have to manually go to every single fill I use and reduce it.

How is the fill scale decided?
When I create a new fill, how can I save it permanently so it will be used for every map?
How can I set a default fill scale to be used across every fill?

Thanks!

Fill scales for dungeons should normally be set to a fixed value, because every dungeon, no matter how large or small should normally use the same fill scaling.

Your comment about these being off leads me to think that you are either experiencing a bug, or that you are not using real-world values when creating your dungeon.
To address the latter first, what sizes do you fill in when you create the dungeon? Do you use the actual real-world size of the dungeon (i.e. 100 x 100 for a 100 by 100 feet dungeon). A common beginner mistake is to instead use values like paper distance or number of grid squares, which would cause the fills to be way off.

To address the other questions, just open up the template file for editing (the *.FCT file, found in the @Templates directory), and change the values there, these are the values used for new maps.

Out of curiosity, Monsen, what do you mean by "change the values"? Where do you find fill scale values? Once changed, do you simply save the template to make the changes stick?

I think it is probably a bug, I am thinking in terms of meters and not squares (well, 1=1.5 so wouldn't be so jarring)
See the picture of how every texture looks huge on the left with the scale of 10x10 (default) and way better on the right with the scale reduced to 3x3.

edit: each room has 4 meters sides
  • Ok, just loaded the non-metric template and it seems correct. It looks like a bug with the metric template
  • well, setting the symbol scale to 0.8 and the drawing properties -> inches per unit to 11.8 seems to make it exactly like a non metric map.
when creating a map using the template, the map size set is transformed (337 = 100m), but everything else seems ok

wonder if I will be surprised by some huge issue with this workaround eventually

In the fill style properties dialog box. All bitmap files fills have a "Scaled" option there. And yes, simply save the template, but do note that only new maps created from the template will inherit these settings, existing maps don't keep a relation to the template.

Yes, you are right, the fill scale is not set correctly for it.
  • You can make your own templates to. Load one that has most of what you like, make any modifications, and save as with a different file name into the same folder. When you click on the 'new template' button, it will show in the list.
