Borders and Colour Fill On A Map

Ok so I have been playing CC3+ and I can't figure out how to do something that seems pretty basic, so I am a bit embarrassed asking :-S

So I have drawn a map a continent and before I add any features (forests/mountains, etc) I want to add the borders for each county which I have figured out. But what I want to do is have each individual countries to have their own colour. What I can't figure out how to do is actually change the colour of the land (which is currently default green) to the new colour I want.

I hope that made sense!

To change the color of the land, you first need to change its fill style to "Solid". Currently it has a bitmap fill style and any color you assign to it will not show. Use "Change Properties" to do this.

That said, how you normally do border colors in CC3+ is to draw a colored polygon above the land. Check the drawing tools, there are ones for Borders available which you can simply use on top of the land.

Note that this will change the color of the entire landmass. Your best bet is to draw individual polygons for each country, as Ralf mentioned.

Now, then, you may be wondering, "How can I draw another polygon over the land and keep the shape of the coastline?!" I know that used to drive me crazy. Then someone pointed out the TRACE command. If you're not familiar with the command, check the CC3+ online help file, the user manual, or search the forums for "trace" to get some good, easy-to-follow instructions.

EDIT: Apparently, there's a "trace tutorial" on page 58 of the CC3+ User Manual.

    Cheers!
