Help with Mapping

Hello, I watched the tutorial videos and got pretty use of using CC3+ and DD3. However, I use roll20 to play games like pathfinder.

I cannot or don't know how to render or save a picture properly for me to use it in Roll20. All attempts test I made ended in failure.
Can anyone help?

  • Could yuou describe the problem? It's hard to give any advice, when not knowing what's wrong :)

You can adjust the image-properties when exxporting as image. Simply right-click on the save-icon, then select "save as", select the desired image-format at the bottom and then press "options" at the bottom right.
  • Hi
I also use roll20, what I have done in the past is make my dungeon map, then save as a Jpeg, then all I have to do is upload it onto roll20. The file type with CC3 is not recognised by Roll20 so this is how you do it.
  • Oh hold on let me explain how to save. Make your map, Click file Save as, then go to the drop downs at the bottom of the page and choose Jpeg bitmap. Choose a location to save the map to (Desktop is the obvious place) and wait as the map saves all the parts, this may take a little while and bobs your uncle its done.
  • Okay Thanks for your help guys, but is there a way to create the dungeon in CC3 which lines perfectly with roll20 grid system?

For example, when I put my map in. The grid on roll20 does not square out the map properly. If you know what I mean. If not I could upload a pic.

I think I know whats wrong but not how to fix it.

When making maps in Campaign Cartographer, the maps are not made in pixel distances. They are made in feet. So when you go to print a battlemap for instance, the print wizard asks you what scale to print at. for battlemap scale it is usually 1 inch =5 feet.

But your Roll 20 system probably measures its grid by pixels instead of feet.

    How to fix it?

I assume some math is in order to convert from inches to pixels but I have no idea how to do that.
  • When using the dialog i mentioned above, you can enter the size in pixels you want to export. When you select a rectangular area, you know it's size in feed.
So when you are selecting a 10 feed x 10 feed area and are exporting it with 5000 pixels x 5000 pixels you end up with 500 pixels per feed.

So the only thing you have to find is how many pixels in roll20 are one grid wich are 70 (https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_Roll20).

After this, create the grid in the size you like and export it with gridsize * 70 pixels.
