Question about size
I am creating a map, not of the whole world but of part of a fantasy continent and was wondering what people felt was a good map size for this, taken in the fact that cities were sparse and towns and villages were scattered around the landscape. Also how much should towns, cities etc be resized if the mountains are at 1. I am just getting into the overland mapping and want to make a great looking map for a game I am creating, but however I do it the map just doesn't look as good as other maps I've seen.
Also can someone recommend a great mapping style, that looks good but is not to complicated to use.
Thanks.

For large areas, the more detailed, the more cluttered and unreadable it gets.
For large areas, you want a smaller difference in size between mountains, forests, and settlements - they should not be literal - they would not read right.
For large areas, you may want to just identify cities and well known land marks (such as the Tower of Doom!).
For smaller maps, you can get more detailed, make the scale farther apart to better represent the "true" terrain", and identify additional settlements such as towns and villages.
It takes some experimenting before you get a feel for what fits right for your specific needs and personal tastes.
As far as styles are concerned, some lend themselves better to different scales.
You can mix styles.
And, make sure that you get styles that are compatible with your version (CC3 or CC3+).
Remember, it is your map - build what you like. :-)
