Coastal contour lines in Tolkien Style from this year's annual

Hi,
I'm new to using CC3 to make maps, so this might be a dumb question.
I bought the Annual 2015 subscription because I wanted to make Tolkien-style maps...but I can't figure out how to get the cool coastal lines. Is this something I have to freehand "draw" along the coastlines using the contours, or is there a special tool/effect I can use?

Happily, no! You can use the Offset drawing command. Specifically, you probably want the Offset Chain command (command line OFFSETCH). Check out the online help topic for Offset Chain. That'll explain it better than I will.

One thing to remember: the copies it creates (the "waves" along the coast) are drawn in the current line style, not the line style of the original that's being copied. So be sure your line settings are what you want before you use the command.

Actually... I just installed the October issue of the Annual, which makes great use of the "coastal lines" you're talking about. If you have CC3, then you'll probably need to use the Offset tool that I mentioned above. However, if you have CC3+, it appears this issue of the annual makes use of a new effect, available in CC3+, called Edge Striping. It's described in the issue's mapping guide. Very cool!

I could not get the Offset Chain to work.

How does Edge Striping work?

I have been having a hard time getting anything to work for my oceans on CC3+.
