Contours sheet effects will not show/display on map.
I am creating my first fantasy world map after having perused Sweeny's very useful video tutorials.
In preparing to put down mountains, I first placed down contoured filled-in places where I will place mountain symbols down. After I have done that, I realized that the contours I have placed were not being placed on the actual Contours sheet, so I then chose the Change Properties tool, and selected all the placed contours, and then I right clicked, and chose to change their sheet to Contours. Then, I went to add a Glow effect, to make it appear more professional.
But in spite of what I've done, the effects for the Contour sheet will not show, even though I have clicked on Apply, and on Okay.
If I need to provide any screenshots, please ask me to do so. I appreciate any thoughtful responses, or help with this. Thank you.

I wanted to add a outer glow to my land mass to create a lighter area around land mass to show shallow water.
The glow would not show up.
For the future, if you post your actual map instead of just screenshots, it is much easier to see and diagnose problems. I am still not 100% sure if what looks like edge fading actual is, or if it is just artifacts from image compression.
And by the way, what do people mean by "posting the actual map instead of screenshots?" Is there a way for me to post an embedded map directly in my post, rather than as an attachment?
Not only that, but before uninstalling, for some reason, in the Program Data folder, I found that I had already lost all of my own saved maps - don't know what happened.
So I am starting over again, and hopefully, I won't have a problem in the next world map I make.
And, I followed Monsen's suggested solution, and it worked; I dramatically increased the number of map units for the effect I want for my Land Contours sheet. Yay!
