Outer Glow Effect on Text leaves artifacts behind

Having some issues with Text Sheet Effects in a map I'm working on.

PROBLEM: When the "Outer Glow" effect is activated on the "Text" Sheet, Text that overlaps symbols on the "Symbols Trees" layer renders with artifacts. The "artifacts" are actually lines of the underlying symbol - as if the opacity of the text itself has been reduced.

See attached image.

Some details:
  • CC3+
  • Schley Overland Style
  • All Text on Text Labels layer
  • All Text on Text Sheet
  • When "Outer Glow" effect is turned off, text renders as expected
  • Relevant Sheet Order + context, "top" of list to bottom of list: SYMBOLS BACK, RIVERS, SYMBOLS, SYMBOLS TREES, ROADS, TEXT, GRID, SCREEN, MAP BORDER
If I move the symbols that are peeking through the text from the TEXT Sheet to to the SYMBOLS BACK sheet, then the text renders to the screen without the distracting artifacts.

Can someone explain to me what is going on? This doesn't make sense to me because the labels are already on the TEXT sheet which renders *after* the SYMBOLS TREES sheet (meaning it should render the text on top of the symbols) and the problem corrects itself when I move the symbols further "up" the render order to the SYMBOLS BACK sheet.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

R A Jacobs

There is a bug which sometimes causes bleedthrough when you have identical colors (black in this case).
One workaround is to place something of a different color in-between the two conflicting sheets. In this case, it should work if you make a new sheet, place it between the TEXT and the SYMBOLS sheet in the list, then copy all the entities from the TEXT sheet to this sheet, and change their colors. This should prevent this from happening, and since the entities are a copy of the ones on the text sheet, they will be hidden by those entities, and therefore invisile in the map.
  • Thanks Monsen.

Not at my home computer - will give that a try later tonight and report back the results. I expect that will fix it. Just knowing it is a bug that someone has seen before at least confirms that I'm not crazy. :)

  • I've found that using the darkest grey color (240) instead of pure black works as well.
  • Got it fixed. Thanks for the help Monsen and Shessar.
