Creating Custom Sheets & Effects
A friend of mine suggested that I post some of the tricks that I have learned in making my map.
Most of the viewers probably already know this but here it goes - Ha, ha!
I like naming almost everything, but I hate using the same TEXT sheet with only one Effects setting.
As such, I created a lot of custom Text Sheets.
This is what I do to create my custom sheets:
1. Left click on Sheets & Effects
2. Check Activate Sheets & Effects
3. Left click on Okay
4. Left click on Sheets & Effects again
5. If you have not done this yet for you map, look at Effects Presets
6. Left click new and type the name of your world into the field (Kelleemah)
7. This creates a custom Sheets & Effects for your world
8. Now you can create custom sheets
9. Under Sheet Status, left click on Add
10. Name your new sheet – I do not use all capitals so it stands out from the core sheets already included
11. In my case, I was creating various sheets for Texts
12. As an example: I created Text World, Text Region, Text Nation, Text Mountain, Text Capital, Text City, Text Town, Text Village, Text River etc...
13. Left click Move Up to position the custom sheet in the right level.
14. Once you have created the new sheets, under Effects Presets, left click on Save.
15. If you do not do this, the next time you open Sheets & Effects, your new Sheets & Effects will be gone. **** (See the next post by Monsen that fixes this)
You may ask, why so many sheets?
The reason is that I do not always want to display the text on a map.
This is especially true because of the level of detail that I am putting into my maps.
So lets say I am printing the world map, I don't need all the names (villages, minor rivers, every ruin, caves, etc...)
So all my texts are Hidden except the ones that I want to show.
When I am doing a close in map, I hide the World Text sheet and unhide the local ones such as Text Town & Text River.
Now, I am only using the ones that I need for the specific map and everything else his hidden.
I can go to my regional map and leave everything hidden except the Text Maj Geo.
Now I have a regional map that only has the names for the major geographical areas such as the mountains, lakes, and main rivers.
By combining custom sheets and the ability to hide them, you can easily multipurpose your map.
The Text Sheets are just one example.
I hope that I did not bore you to much and that this was useful information for somebody.
Thanks,
Charles W. Robinson

If a sheet disappears for you, make sure you have put something on it, as CC3(+) doesn't save empty sheets. You'll find that the existing templates all a single point on each sheet at 0,0 (placed on the TEMPLATE layer). These are used to keep the otherwise empty sheets there. This technique is only useful if you create a new sheet and doesn't use it in the current drawing session, once you put anything on it, it will stay just fine.
Yes,
Until I saved the new sheets on the new preset "Kelleemah", I had problems with the new sheets vanishing after I closed the program even when I had hit save after putting them in.
Sometimes the new ones would be there the next time I opened them, but then they vanished and never showed up again.
I have tried clicking on Show All and they still did not appear.
The only way to fix it was to save it on the new preset "Kelleemah."
I probably was having issues since I do not think that I had stuff on all of them.
Thanks Monsen,
You have been a great help!
