Import Herwin Wielink style into CC3+

Hello there,

I recently purchased the CC3 and CC3+ bundle.
After playing around with it, I also got my hands on the annual that gives out Herwin Wielink's overland style.
The problem is that I cannot seem to be able to get it to work properly in CC3+.

I imported all the folders from CC3, it recognizes the drawing tools, wizards etc. but does not recognize symbols.
The first time I open a map that was created in that style it allows me to see the symbols of the tab I had opened previously in that style, but when I change to other tabs I get prompted to find where they are.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

To use the symbol catalog buttons, the symbol catalog needs to have symbol catalog settings associated with them. This is not as simple as just copying some files over (In CC3, these are stored in the registry, in CC3+, these are stored in a configuration file.)

I recommend that you stick to opening the symbol catalogs using the 'open symbol catalog' button on top of the symbol catalog window, instead of the catalog buttons (like structures, vegetation, minerals/mountains, etc). Alternatively, if you own the Tome of Ultimate Mapping, it discusses the creation of symbol catalog settings, which you can manually create for the symbol catalogs inside CC3+. Done correctly, you can make the catalog buttons work as well.

Stuff like this is why ProFantasy needs some time to properly convert everything to CC3+
  • I'm interested in getting some Annuals and possibly other products, but these sorts of workarounds being needed for CC3+ are keeping me away from the buy button unfortunately.

Speaking of Annuals, if you subscribe do you keep access to all the Annuals from while you were subscribed or do you lose them after a year and need to buy the $40 pack or do you get that Annual added to your account? Do you lose access to all of it when you cancel your subscription? The FAQ says
After a current year's Annual is through, we release it as a full product with all twelve issues bundled into a single download or box. This version is then available both on our website and in retail stores. The subscription version is only available through our webstore.
But that's not entirely clear about what happens after the year is up or after a cancel.
  • When I log into my account, I see the Annuals and all of the Profantasy software I purchased in the past. So you keep access to them. I've had computers fail permanently, so the ability to go in to my Profantasy account and regain the software is great!

These sort of workarounds are not intended for the end user anyway. People who wish are free to try do such a manual conversion, but it is not really a supported way. If you are unwilling to run CC3 alongside of CC3+ for the time being, then not buying add-ons/annuals until they are available for CC3+ is probably the best choice. The fact that not everything is ready yet is one of the reasons why CC3+ isn't fully released yet, but is still consider 'early adopter' version. The 'full package' experience is still with CC3, although with the main two add-ons (CD3 and DD3) available for CC3+ and then some, it can definitely fulfill most mapping needs.

As for the Annuals, as JimP mentioned, you keep full access to them after the year is up, just as with any other ProFantasy product. As for cancelling,t hat isn't really a thing. When you buy the annual, you pay for a year's worth of issues up front. There is no recurring subscription payment. If you want to continue on with the next year, you'll need to buy a new subscription for that year.
  • Ahh, great, thanks for the clarification! So it's basically $40 for a year's worth (or on sale for the bundle!)

Yes, exactly. (Where a year is always a calendar year, like 2014 or 2015, you cannot start from the middle of a year and continue into the middle of the next)
  • Picked up 2015 so far, some neat things in it!
