making your own flooring

How do you make a .dto file if you've got an image you want to use as a carpet for e.g.?

  • Seems the December 2007 Annual has a section about creating a new .dto.

This forum post sums up the steps from what my sleepy eyes can tell.

Both those resources talks about creating a complete new style though, creating a single drawtool (.dto) in an existing style is much simpler.

    1. Make sure you have a map open in the same style you wish to create the tool for (i.e. the map you tend to use it in)
    2. Import your image as a fill style using tools -> Import bitmap fill styles.
    2. Click the all drawing tools button in the left menu, then hit 'advanced'.
    3. Select a drawing tool from the list that behaves similarly to your desire for the new tool.
    4. Click the new button, and give the new tool a fitting name.
    5. Select your new tool from the list.
    6. Click the properties button, and change the fill style to your newly imported bitmap fill
    7. Click ok, then click Click save.
  • Thanks @Monsen. Do I have to do this *every* map I want to use the same carpet in?

    No.
The tool will be available in all maps of the same style you created the tool in. You only have to do step 2 for any additional maps.

If you wish, you can also edit the template the maps are based on, then you don't have to do anything at all to have the tool available on all new maps created from this template (Note that this will not have any effect on already existing maps created from the template, only new ones)
To edit the template, simply open up the template file for editing that you base your map on (Template files have a .fct extension, but are otherwise normal map files, and can be found in the templates directory in the cc3+ data directory), then follow the above instructions. This will ensure that all new maps created from this template will already have your carpet fill available.
