Bearing Distance?

I opened up another users map, (Mystara.fcw) from another thread and wanted to measure the distance two points. My normal method is info>distance then click and click. The result is usually a distance in (for instance) meters. On this map it gives me a "bearing distance" and "distance XY". Is there a way to to set it up so it gives me the distance in my preferred style? I don't want to have to apply pythagoras.

This is the new distance tool from SS4. It gives a lot more information in the same dialog, but it is a bit more messy IMHO. The number you are looking for is the number after the comma in the top box, that is the actual distance (Same as the old dialog reported).
If you want the old tool, simply switch toolbar sets, for example by clicking the DD3 button.

If you like, you can also type the command directly on the command line, the old command is DISTANCE, while the new one is DIST2.
  • On mine both appear under the Info menu, too: "Bearing" (new style, including distance) and "Distance" (old style).
  • seycyrus, this wasn't by any means the map i posted? I don't get that problem with that

Why yes it is your map. Long live Mystara!

My probelm seemed to resolve itself when I manually typed in the command "distance". Now it works even when i use the info>distance method.

In the post in which you introduce the map, you say the hex distance is 8 miles, but I don't get that scaling. When I use the distance command from face to face on a hex, the result is ~ 145 "somethings". Any idea how I re-calibrate that?

Have you done any other Mystara maps?
  • I haven't done any other Mystara maps. The info on distance is out of wack - I get the same as you. I wanted the hexes to be 8 miles across, and so I just use the hexes as the measure of distance. If anyone can tell us how to recalibrate the distance to the correct one, please post it. Perhaps we need to rescale the whole map? I will post newer additions when I get around to it.

I went to file>drawing properties>Drawing Units and selected "Custom". Then I put 18.125 (which is 145/8), made sure the Rescale box is checked and hit "ok".

The distance tool seems to be correct now, although I notice that the snaps are much larger.
