A Keep - Tell me what you think

I've been fiddling around with CC3 for about 8 months now and I would like peoples input on the map I've created. A lot of you will probably find the foot print of the keep to be familiar. F3, B1 and B2 to follow.

  • It is better to attach the image here Rains. It is a LOT more confortable to see and comment.
  • That was what I figured but I wasn't able to get them to attach as .png files. It simple hung for quite a while and then failed.
  • Excellent Job! I'm very impressed.

Hope you don't mind if I steal it for next time I run TOEE. Every party wants to fix it up, so it is nice to have a restored version.

I edited your post to make that URL of yours into a link.

As for uploading files, make sure the file follows the image posting guidelines of this forum (Maximum of 800 pixels wide, maximum of 2MB file size. If you exceed the file size restriction, you tend to get a cryptic error messagem)

That's pretty sweet. I like the added touch of the faded colors outside, darker colors inside to indicate the level distinction.

One question - can the towers be entered from ground level? If so, you might want to consider some sort of entryway indication.
  • Thank you. I definitely wanted the elevation difference to pop and that was a super easy way to go about it. As for the towers, I had meant to put doors on the towers (obviously) but the crenelation effect made that really tricky. However, I probably will go back and just re work it - I went this far so I may as well go a little further.

I have now gone back and fixed the unenterable towers. I'd love to hear peoples constructive criticism on how the map looks. While it is a hobby, I really want to make polished/professional looking maps.

Cool, looks much better now! My only other (minor) comment is that the entrance foyer feels a little bare. There's this fancy rug but nothing else in the room. Things like art objects, armor, etc. could really make the entrance much more imposing - but then again, sparse could totally be the style you're going for.

Thats a great map! Good job. I can see how much effort even went into the forest alone, with the smaller undergrowth under the trees. Probably only thing I would have a play with is a texturize effect on the water and/or ground. Have a go with that effect if you have not before. You can get some pretty cool looking roughness to break up a surface and add a bit of umm well, texture I suppose!

If you're really nuts you could make some shadows coming off the keep walls. But you might have to make them manually using the line and polygon tools to get the shadows looking realistic and awesome.

Check out Joachim de Ravenbel's chapel tutorials if you have not done so before. Tutorial 9 deals with shadows.
